'Superstorm' Will Befall California

The latest research published a threat regarding a theoretical Pacific-spawned super storm that may be believed to bring much more damage in California. Its destruction power has almost 4 times the amount of damage that could be wrought by a major earthquake.

It sounds like a part of an apocalyptic action movie, but it’s not a plot of movie. The scientists with the U.S. Geological Survey warned federal and state emergency officials about "superstorms" that will hit California's geological. They also suggested to the federal to add this problem to the long list of natural disasters to worry about in the Golden State.

The scenario is basically based on the two biggest storm cycles that happened over the past half century occurring back to back. The scientists describe it as 40 days of non-stop raining as much as ten feet of water, strong winds, landslides and widespread flooding. They also made an estimate of the damages that it can cause. The damage will probably reach $300 million as systems for channeling storm water will become over-matched.

Such a superstorm is hypothetical but not improbable, climate researchers said. "We think this event happens once every 100 or 200 years or so, which puts it in the same category as our big San Andreas earthquakes," Geological Survey scientist Lucy Jones said in a press release.
