Joplin Tornado Victims Continue to Increase - The death toll caused by a tornado that hit the City of Joplin, Missouri, United States on Sunday, May 22 continues to grow. Until now, the death toll has reached 123 people. Many people are still missing.

300 kilometers per hour hurricane which occurred on Monday, May 23, 2011, made almost 75 percent of a city where 50,500 people live there totally destroyed. Some critical facilities, including hospitals and power plants destroyed. Debris and fallen trees close the street.

When the tornado hit, there are about 50 thousand people survive in the city of Joplin. In addition to hundreds of people were killed, 500 others were seriously injured. The number of victim in predicted will continue to grow because rescue teams are still searching for victims in collapsed buildings now.


Local authorities said that about 750 people were injured due to the natural phenomena. The tornado also destroyed about two thousand buildings in the city of Joplin. Tornado also hit the region of Oklahoma, killed at least two people and caused many people injured in Oklahoma City.

Tornado that hit Joplin was the deadliest single tornado in the U.S. since 1947. At the time the tornado in Woodland, Oklahoma killed 181 people.

President Barack Obama has expressed condolences over the victims who died in this natural disaster. Obama plans a visit to Joplin on Sunday, May 29 to come upon his return from a tour to Europe.
