Facebook goes down, people freak out, like someone who lost credit cards or can not watch popular movies. Maybe that sentence can describe the situation on 16 December. At that time, Facebook is not working. All Facebook users around the world ask “is facebook down today ?”.
Not only that, when Facebook was down, half the world population had suddenly become productive. The other half of the population is using #Twitter," read one widely-circulated tweet, according to PCMag.com. Other Twitterers were less bothered by the outage. "I think I am the only person on the planet not bothered by fact that Facebook went down," one user wrote.
The Web then becomes flooded with searches like “what’s wrong with Facebook,” “is Facebook down” “Facebook not working”, “is facebook down today”, “facebook down december 16″, “why isnt facebook working right now”, “facebook login problems” and so forth. The same sort of panic occurs when Twitter goes down.
Then, what is actually happening on Facebook?
Facebook opted to take a little time and turn off the social networking site so they could do some updates to their interface. But also they had to do some damage control. Facebook, for its part, blamed the black-out on a sweeping update to Facebook Pages.
“For a brief period of time, some internal prototypes were made public to a number of people externally," a Facebook spokesperson told Forbes magazine earlier today. "As a result, we took the site down for a few minutes. It’s back up, and we apologize for the inconvenience.”
